Community has a dedicated Political Liaison Officer, who ensures that Community has access to government decision makers when an issue affects Community members.
The Union affiliates to the Labour Party and supports the Party at all relevant elections. This support is from the voluntary contributions of our members, and any member may elect not to contribute. As a consequence we have a relationship with the Government through a number of different channels in the Labour Party, through the National Executive Committee, National Policy Forum and Policy Commissions.

Locally
- The Union encourages all members to join the Labour Party and to become active
- The Union encourages all branches to affiliate to their local Labour Party and to participate in relevant community campaigns
- We encourage and support active members to stand for elections as Councillors and other community roles such as School Governor.
Labour Party Conference
The Union sends a full delegation to the annual conference where we actively and strongly participate in the main conference and fringe events, and in particular hosting what has become one of the best attended receptions of the week. We also send active and full delegations to the Scottish and Welsh Labour Party conferences.
Trade Union Labour Party Liaison Organisation (TULO)
The Union affiliates to TULO and is active in contributing and participating in TULO campaigns.
Parliamentary Panel
The Union has recently set up a Parliamentary Panel and encourages active members to apply in order to support the maximum number of our members who wish to pursue a political career, and to support and promote the Union's policies in their Constituencies and in Parliament.
